Linux In The Army
In this months issue of Popular Mechanics Magazine an article was published on the “Land Warrior System”. This is a combat equipment system being implemented by the U.S Army for what sounds like a test run on a deployment to Iraq by A Stryker brigade from Fort Lewis, Wash.
So what’s the big deal you ask? The big deal is that instead of running a proprietary operation system, this futuristic combat equipment is running Linux. Here is the link to the Popular Mechanics article on their website:

Though it does not mention that it is running the Linux OS you can see the Linux mascot “Tux” in this picture in the top left corner.

It is nice to see Linux gaining ground in the embedded systems since it has been suited for such a task for a long while.
Interesting fact: Many popular electronics run Linux such as TiVo and the Linksys WRT54G wireless router..
